Surface explores how artists continually renegotiate their relationship to the materials they
touch, manipulate, and reinvent. Bringing together practices rooted in repurposing and
transformation, the exhibition highlights works that push both material and perceptual
boundaries, turning the familiar into something unexpected.
Within this context, the works complicate the viewer’s sense of depth and material
certainty, transforming industrial and traditional components into fluid, optical
experiences. Through these layered surfaces, they challenge the assumptions embedded
in material hierarchies and expand what an artwork’s “skin” can hold.
Beneath these surfaces lie narratives and meanings that draw from art history, philosophy,
music, and contemporary society. The works in Surface operate not only as material
experiments but as invitations to sense the emotional, conceptual, and cultural layers
embedded within.
Here, surface is not merely a finishing layer; it becomes a site of investigation, negotiation,
and potential. Surface invites viewers to look again at what is often overlooked and to
witness how artists reimagine the ordinary into something new.
