Ruzy Gallery is pleased to present CONCENTRATE, a solo exhibition by Turkiye based British artist Tom Fellows, opening on 07 May 2026 in Istanbul.

The exhibition brings together a new body of works that continue Fellows’ ongoing exploration of material transformation, how geological time can be felt in the present, and how surfaces carry their own kind of physical intelligence. Working across painting and sculptural processes, the artist constructs works through repeated acts of layering, abrasion, compression, and heat, where matter is not simply applied but actively transformed under pressure. Within this process, the surface becomes both record and residue — a site where time, labour, and material memory remain visibly embedded.

In CONCENTRATE, the artist reflects on concentration as both a mental and physical condition. On one hand, it is a mental state — a quiet command to focus in a world full of distraction. On the other, it describes matter itself when it is pressed into something denser and more intense. It is at this point that attention and physical force meet, and thinking becomes material.

For Fellows, the surface is never final. Each work holds traces of earlier actions, even when they are no longer visible. What appears stable is built from many layers of change, creating a quiet sense of movement within each piece.

The artist works through repetition and pressure, allowing form to emerge slowly over time, much like geological processes. In this way, accumulation becomes structure, and pressure becomes form.

A key element of the exhibition is an installation that connects two spaces within the gallery, creating a continuous spatial experience.

CONCENTRATE at Ruzy Gallery invites the viewer into a focused way of looking, where what is seen on the surface is only a fragment of a longer process of making.
