Amalie Jakobsen

Grenaa, Denmark, 1989

Amalie Jakobsen (born 1989, Grenaa, Denmark) is a Berlin-based artist known for her minimalist sculptures and large-scale public installations. Her work explores scientific and anthropological concepts of time and space. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths University, London. Jakobsen’s abstract geometric forms and microcosmic landscapes create immersive experiences that draw viewers in. Her sculptures physically engage with their surroundings, prompting the viewer to move or look in a particular way. As the artist herself describes, her work seeks to “disrupt” familiar systems in order to find new ways of understanding the world around us.

In her more recent works, Jakobsen combines solid, industrial materials such as steel and aluminium with softer, natural ones like stone and marble, giving her practice a rich sense of tactility. Her work has been exhibited widely in national and international institutions, including Gl. Strand (Copenhagen, DK), ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art (Ishøj, DK), Politikens Forhal (Copenhagen, DK), Boros Collection (Berlin, DE), Feral (Mexico City, MX), and STCFTHOTS (Leeds, UK). Her public installations can be found in various locations such as Ringe Prison (Ringe, DK), Næstved Gymnasium (Næstved, DK), Atrium Seine (Clichy, Paris, FR), and the Danish Immigration Service Office (Næstved, DK).
